Frequently Asked Questions
➝ What is Executive Coaching and how does it differ from Mentoring?
Let’s pretend you’re my client and one of your challenges is having difficult discussions with staff. When I coach you on this, we’ll look at why these discussions are difficult for you. For example, is this discussion getting in way of your perception of yourself as a “nice” person? Together, we might discuss how being “nice” is getting in the way of you being a leader. Coaching is about creating new insights that will reshape how you think about yourself and your job. It’s focused on you as a unique individual. I could coach another person on exactly the same challenge and have a completely different discussion.
Mentoring is less about you and more about the situation and using my experience to provide you with advice to help you overcome a particular challenge.
➝ Is Executive Coaching only for executives?
No. I work with Senior Accountants all the way up to CFOs.
➝ How do you work?
First, we need to decide if we’re a good fit to work together.
All coaching engagements start with a discussion. We’ll set aside between 1 to 2 hours to learn about each other, and discuss the specific problems you’d like to solve and what you’d like to create.
If you’re an organization and you’d like me to coach or mentor specific staff members on your team, I will need to meet those staff members to determine if we’re a good fit.
If we all think we might be a good fit, I’ll develop a proposal that is based on your unique requirements, including budget and availability.
If it still looks good, we’ll get started.
Coaching sessions are done over the phone or Zoom. If you are located in the GTA and if it makes sense, we can have our sessions in person.
➝ How do I know that coaching will work for me or my organization?
We’ll set specific, tangible criteria at the outset of the engagement; a clear path to a desired result. As we move forward, we’ll sit down together on a regular basis to review the progress that’s being made. This will keep us on track.
